Goldfish Pixel Art: Flowing Tails, Round Bodies & Bright Fins

A broad tail and a rounded body give a goldfish more character than a field of tiny scales. Compare fancy fins, simple orange silhouettes and playful illustrated faces.

Goldfish pixel art questions

Why does the tail look like part of a round blob?

The narrow connection between the body and tail may have merged. Preserve that pinch in the silhouette and leave a background notch between the upper and lower tail lobes.

Should every scale survive the conversion?

No. Start with the body color, eye, gill area and main fins. A few grouped highlights can imply scales more clearly than many isolated dots that flicker or disappear at small sizes.

How do I keep pale fins visible?

Preview them on the background you expect to use. Give the outer edge a different value or simplify overlapping fin rays; merely enlarging a transparent white fin will not add contrast.

Does the GIF show the fish swimming?

It applies a gentle whole-illustration floating motion. The tail and fins do not change shape independently, so it is not a frame-by-frame swimming cycle.

Shape the fins before the scales

Pick a simple body and tail silhouette, keep the eye readable, then add the few highlights that make your fish distinctive.
