A Simple Pixel Art Challenge for Long-Distance Friends—Without Drawing Pressure

Written by Divoom Professional Team

For a low-pressure pixel-art challenge, agree on one small prompt, make whatever version fits and exchange the results without ranking them. Participation can mean drawing, choosing a color or simply looking. The activity is a reason to share a moment, not a test of artistic ability or friendship.

Invite a small experiment, with an easy decline

You might send: “Want to each make a tiny picture of a snack this week? Rough versions count, and we can skip it if life is busy.” Agree whether you want to make art at the same time or send it whenever convenient. Different time zones do not require a live session.

Keep the tool choice simple. Use an editor people already have or choose a familiar drawing format instead of making account creation the first challenge. Ask before sharing another person’s work outside the group.

Use one shared constraint rather than a quality target

Choose a subject such as a favorite mug, an imaginary plant or one object from today. You could optionally agree on a small canvas or a few colors, but there is no need to enforce identical tools. A deliberately incomplete sketch remains a valid contribution.

  1. Agree on the prompt and whether there is any deadline.
  2. Make a version, or contribute a color or idea instead.
  3. Send the image with one detail you enjoyed choosing.
  4. Respond to that detail or ask a curious question, then let the activity end.

This is an activity proposal, not a drawing curriculum. Avoid votes, winner labels and surprise critiques unless everyone explicitly wants feedback.

Share a copy while keeping editable work

Aseprite distinguishes saving the full project from exporting an image. Use the equivalent distinction in the actual editor: keep editable work and send a convenient copy. If you adapt a design for a gift, check which details fit the target grid rather than treating a changed output as a lower-quality contribution.

If someone already wants to display the result, the Divoom Ditoo-Pro pixel art speaker supports customizable pixel images and animations alongside Bluetooth playback. It is an optional output for selected content; every participant can join without owning one.

Compare pixel art speakers only for a wanted display and audio role. Buying matching devices is not part of the challenge.

Finish without creating a new obligation

After sharing, you can leave the pictures in the chat or choose another prompt later. If a friend does not finish, ask whether they want to show the draft, switch roles or drop the activity. The next invitation can be different; a shared experiment does not need to become a streak.
