A Divoom device on its own is impressive. Paired with the app, it becomes a completely different experience. The Divoom app is where pixel art gets created, clocks get customized, live data gets connected, and the community comes alive. No matter you just unboxed a Divoom Times Frame, a Pixoo display, or a Timebox speaker, this guide walks you through everything from download to daily use.
What the Divoom App Does
Understanding the core functions helps before setup. The Divoom app is a free companion available on iOS and Android, with no subscription at any stage.
At its core, the app does four things:
-
Controls your device: Adjust brightness, change display modes, set alarms, and manage playlists remotely from your phone.
-
Hosts the pixel art editor: Create original artwork or animations from scratch using professional drawing tools including multiple layers, full RGB color support, and text editors.
-
Connects to live data: Link your display to weather feeds, social media follower counts, stock tickers, game stats, and more.
-
Opens the community gallery: Browse over 700,000 designs created by a global community of pixel artists, save favorites directly to your device, and submit your own work.
It is also worth knowing that you do not need a Divoom device to use the pixel art editor or browse the community. The creative side of the app is open to anyone.
Downloading the Divoom App
Getting the app takes about a minute.
-
iOS: Search "Divoom" in the Apple App Store, or scan the QR code on your product packaging. The app is listed as "Divoom: Pixel Art Community."
-
Android: Search "Divoom" in Google Play, or scan the QR code on your packaging. The app is listed as "Divoom: Pixel Art Editor."
-
PC: There is no dedicated desktop version of the Divoom app. PC users can run the app through an Android emulator. Download a trusted emulator, install the Divoom APK from a reliable source, and open the app from within the emulator environment.
Once installed, create a free account or log in if you already have one. The account lets you save designs, follow artists, and participate in monthly contests.
Connecting Your Device
Times Frame
The Divoom Times Frame connects via WiFi. Power on the frame and follow the on-screen setup to connect it to your home network. Open the Divoom app, tap "Add Device," and the app will scan for nearby devices.
Select your Times Frame from the list and follow the prompts to complete pairing. Once connected, the app becomes the control center for uploading photos, setting clock faces, and managing display content.
Pixoo Series
The Divoom Pixoo range uses Bluetooth for the standard and Max models, and WiFi for the Pixoo-64. Power on your Pixoo, open the Divoom app, and tap "Add Device."
Enable Bluetooth on your phone if connecting a standard model, or make sure the device is on the same WiFi network if connecting the Pixoo-64. Select your device from the list and follow the on-screen steps to complete the pairing.
Timebox and Speaker Devices
Timebox and speaker products like the Ditoo and TimeBox Evo use dual Bluetooth connections. One connection handles audio and one handles the LED display. In your phone's Bluetooth settings, connect to the audio channel first.
Then open the Divoom app and connect to the light channel from within the app. The device name in the app will differ slightly from the audio channel name, so look for the version with "light" in the label.
Times Gate
The Divoom Times Gate connects via WiFi. Power on the device, connect it to your network through the on-screen setup, then open the Divoom app and tap "Add Device." The app will detect the Times Gate and walk you through the pairing steps. Once paired, you can control all five screens, set live data channels, and manage clock faces from the app.
Key Features to Explore
Pixel Art Editor
The editor supports multiple layers, full RGB color, text overlays, animation creation, and GIF or image imports. You can convert existing photos or GIFs into pixel art, add background music to animations, and export finished work as an MP4 to share on social media.
Photo Upload and Display
The Times Frame uses the app's photo upload function to send images directly to the frame. Photos can be organized into playlists, scheduled to display at set times, and styled with pixel art overlays or animated transitions.
Clock Faces and Live Widgets
The Clock channel in the app lets you choose from hundreds of clock face styles and connect live data sources. Options include weather, YouTube subscriber counts, Twitch followers, Twitter stats, crypto prices, stock tickers, and gaming stats for titles like League of Legends, Overwatch, and Fortnite.
Alarms and Planner
The app supports up to 14 individual alarms, each with custom sounds, colors, and pixel art animations. The built-in planner sends reminders for events, appointments, and countdowns directly to the device screen.
Notifications and Social Media
Link your social accounts to receive notification alerts on your display. Follower milestones, mentions, and updates appear as pixel art animations on screen.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
App cannot find the device: Confirm Bluetooth is on, the device is powered, and pairing mode is active. Move closer and scan again. Restarting both the app and device often fixes this.
-
Device shows up but will not connect: Check that you are connecting to the correct channel in the app. Speaker devices use separate audio and light channels. Confirm you have connected the light channel through the app, not just the audio channel through your phone's Bluetooth settings.
-
WiFi devices not appearing: Confirm your phone and the device are on the same WiFi network. The app does not detect devices across different networks. Also check the device is not still in setup mode waiting for a network password.
-
Firmware update needed: When a firmware update is available, the app will prompt you on the home screen. Tap the notification and follow the steps to update. Keep the device powered and connected throughout the update.
Get More From Your Divoom Setup
The Divoom app is genuinely one of those tools that rewards exploration. The more time you spend in it, the more you find. Monthly contests, a growing community gallery, and regular firmware updates mean the experience keeps evolving well after the initial setup.
