Number 1 Pixel Art: Clear Flags and Stable Bases

Number 1 pixel art questions

How can a narrow 1 feel centered?

Center its visible mass rather than only its bounding box. A broad base can balance the small upper flag.

What should I keep when simplifying digit 1 to a small grid?

Distinguish 1 from capital I by changing the top flag and lower footing. Compare the simplified silhouette with the larger example at native size; do not judge only from a magnified preview.

Can I combine digit 1 with other characters?

Yes. Keep a common cap height or numeral height, baseline and stroke weight. For a counter or date, compare this digit with its neighbors and keep the spacing consistent as the value changes.

Is the 1 GIF a drawing animation?

No. The example GIF floats the entire finished glyph in a short eight-frame loop. It does not reveal stroke order, and each exported frame remains 128 × 128 pixels.

Build your own 1.

Distinguish 1 from capital I by changing the top flag and lower footing. Try a simpler grid first, then refine the finished pixels.
