Angry dog pixel art questions

Why does my angry dog look like a cat?

Give the muzzle more length or width, move the nose forward and choose an ear silhouette that fits your dog. A face made only from pointed ears and narrow eyes can easily read as a cat.

How can I draw a growl with very few pixels?

Use one clear dark jaw opening and only one or two light tooth shapes. Keep a dark separation between the teeth and the muzzle highlight so they do not become a solid white patch.

Do all angry dogs need pointed ears?

No. Folded or floppy ears can work when the muzzle, brow and body posture carry the expression. Changing the ear silhouette also helps your gallery avoid a repeated wolf-like head.

What kind of animation is the GIF?

It is a gentle bobbing loop assembled from a licensed growling cartoon. It does not animate the jaw. A barking cycle would need deliberately different open and closed mouth frames.

Choose a muzzle. Build an attitude.

Try a broad face or a long snout, then use a few strong marks to give your dog a grumpy expression.
