Bat Pixel Art: Wide Wings, Little Fangs & Night Shapes

Scalloped wings identify a bat before you see its face. Compare broad silhouettes, friendly cartoons and moonlit shapes, then choose how much expression belongs in your small flying character.

Bat pixel art questions

How do I keep both wing tips in a square?

Fit the complete wingspan and leave a small margin. A slightly smaller body is preferable to clipping the pointed ends; the wings carry most of the bat silhouette.

Why does a dark bat become a solid blob?

Separate the face, ears and wing edges with deliberate lightness changes. Keep the background noticeably lighter or darker than the wings rather than relying on tiny eye highlights alone.

Should every bat be perfectly symmetrical?

A front-facing icon benefits from balanced wings. A turning or side-facing bat can be asymmetrical, but its nearer wing should have a clear outline instead of looking accidentally cropped.

Choose a shape for your bat

Build the left and right wing as large shapes before placing the ears and face.
