Shark Pixel Art: Dorsal Fins, Hammerheads & Friendly Predators

A triangular dorsal fin gives a shark away, but it does not have to be the same gray side sprite every time. Compare hammerheads, broad grinning cartoons, minimal silhouettes and shaded swimmers.

Shark pixel art questions

How do I stop a shark looking like a dolphin?

Use a strong triangular dorsal fin, a clear shark tail and gill marks behind the head where the chosen view allows them. Avoid giving every shark a long rounded dolphin-like muzzle.

How should I fit a hammerhead into a square?

Leave room across the full head width and preserve the side extensions. A crop based only on the eye or central nose will remove the feature that identifies the hammerhead.

Why do the teeth become a white bar?

The gaps between them are too small at the working grid. Use fewer light tooth clusters and a stronger dark mouth opening rather than adding more tiny triangles.

Try your own shark design

Keep the dorsal fin separate from the background and place the pectoral fins below the body line. Start with that shape in the pixel art maker.
